The Claremont Jets was formed in 1989 as part of an expanding Western Australia Gridiron Football League (WAGFL), with the fundamental ethos of getting away from the American bullshit that seems to follow this sport. Admittedly, being an American sport, it seems a bit of a contradiction, but the Jets play Gridiron as Australians playing Gridiron, not like wannabe Americans playing Gridiron.

The club focuses on playing and enjoying our football as a team. When things aren't going our way we pull together as a team, rather than bitch at one another, and get on with the job. At the end of the day , win lose or draw, the Jets will enjoy themselves as only the Jets do, and this is another reason why the club has remained so strong for so long. Admittedly, it is more enjoyable when you win.

This spirit has set the club in good stead with many a come from behind win, two of which have been Championship games to the tune of 22 to 6 and 28 to 6 down at the start of the second half to come back for the win. The Jets are also the most successful WA team in terms of championships won, with the current Championship tally standing at 5. These included 4 in a row for the 92/93, 93/94, 94/95 & 95/96 seasons in the WAGFL and a win in the 98/99 season in the new state league - Gridiron West. The team has made the finals series every year since 92.

The league has had a number of attempts at running junior leagues over the years with varying success and the Jets have always had a side to represent the club in those junior league. The latest junior league has been by far the most successfully due to the dedication and commitment of Michelle Gannaway and has been running since 2003. The Jets juniors have come 2nd and 3rd in the leagues first 2 season due largely expert tutelage of coach Leo, who I'm please to announce is back with us for the upcoming 2005 season.
Juniors play a modified version of the game with less direct contact and only 7 a side but it’s a great way for younger players to get a feel for what the games all about.

Anyone who feels that the Jets is the club for them, be it as a player, coach, support staff or supporter, then let us know, either by coming down to training, down to see a game, or send us an e-mail at jetsgc@gmail.com
